IT’S TIME TO MEET YOUR METER…

The most convenient way to monitor your water usage is to read the water meter. The meter pictured on this page is similar to the one installed in your home. The meter is usually located inside the house along an outside wall. Water and glycerin sealed in the face of the meter help prevent malfunction. The meter registers usage in gallons. Read the numbers along the top of the meter to calculate your water consumption. Use a flashlight to activate the display. Read the 9 digit numbers from left to right as you would a car odometer. The last two digits are decimals.

If the upper left display shows a picture of a faucet, you probably have a leak. A flashing faucet indicates an intermittent leak, meaning that water has been used for at least 50 of the 96 15-minute intervals during a 24-hour period. A picture that is on continuously indicates water use for all 96 15-minute intervals during a 24-hour period.
